The corporal sighed as he glanced over at the girl standing at the foot of the table; wasn’t he allowed to at least eat in peace? He swallowed his food and took a sip or two of his tea, washing it down, before turning to her.

“How is he?”

Dark eyes remained firm upon her superior’s form; almost unreadable, though held no discord even after she’d sensed that her presence was likely unwanted. She supposed it was a given considering she’d been the one to walk in last, though.

Even with his inquiry, her gaze did not falter.

“He’s doing well.” Lips pursed themselves for a moment. “He’s still asleep… but making a fast recovery.” Out of context, the sped-up rate at which her adoptive brother’s body was coping at would’ve been a startling disclosure. But–…

… As much as it pained her to admit, no longer was he like every other average human.

Her gaze lingered on her captain’s expression for another fleeting moment, before slowly shifting down to the table before her. In the back of her mind, there was a need to voice out the one thing that had nagged at her for some time now; from back then… But not strong enough to have her act on her inclination. No, timing was essential. And it seemed the captain wasn’t too keen on discussing whilst eating.

Perhaps she should sit–… No. It didn’t seem justified to act informal in front of a superior, she deduced. Despite said superior being among the reasons for her disconcerted state of mind. That was a fact she decided to dismiss for now.
